13:55 Uttoxeter – Baraboy @ 13/2

In Saturday’s opener at Uttoxeter, it’s fairly difficult to see why Baraboy is as big in the early market as he is. Barry Murtagh’s seven-year-old is certainly one of the better horses in this line-up and appears to have considerably more going for him than a good few others.

A course record of two wins and two places from six runs would be impressive in itself, but considering the remainder of the field don’t have a victory at this venue between them it is doubly so. The form of Baraboy’s most recent C&D win – a comfortable victory in a very similar looking contest – must give him an excellent chance.

As you can probably gather from the record mentioned above, this gelding has often saved his best for this venue and, considering he’s managed to get competitive in each of his last five visits to the track, is no back number here.

Chasing has mainly been the focus this season, but he performed creditably in a race against better animals over timber last time out so, back in a Class 5 event, could quite easily go well.

Each of the chief protagonists in the early market appear to have serious question marks surrounding them and for one reason or another, all look too short. On the other hand, there are plenty of reasons to think Baraboy is anything but.

Not only does the selection go well around these parts, and on the forecast ground, but the trainer has a more than respectable record at the venue too. All things considered, the seven-year-old looks to have been found the right sort of race and is expected to go well at a standout price.
