Germany v Italy: Thomas Giles’ betting tip
The Germans were unconvincing in the group stage as most thought they would romp through comfortably. However, Germany are the perfect tournament team who peak and become good when it really matters – as proved in their 3-0 demolition of Slovakia in the first knockout round.
The Italians breezed through their group and set up a match against Mediterranean rivals Spain in the last 16. The Spanish looked like real contenders for retaining the title in the first two matches of the tournament, however, their loss against Croatia dented their confidence massively and they were unable to repair it in time for the Italy game, allowing Antonio Conte’s men to capitalise.
While Germany are still favourites, the bookies suddenly seem to fancy Italy’s chances after their impressive win against Spain. However, personally I do not buy it and feel they merely took advantage of Spain’s loss of confidence.
I make Joachim Löw’s side overwhelming favourites but the bookies seem to be more sceptical – Germany, at 6/5 to win, represent great value. It is always wise to back the Germans and these odds give a great chance of making a decent return off a Germany win – incredibly rare so take this opportunity while you can.
