The new season has so far gone swimmingly as far as Borussia Dortmund are concerned; they’re unbeaten under new manager Peter Bosz, winning four of their five matches, scoring an impressive 13 goals and conceding none. Such form is very promising indeed and, at this moment in time, BVB are deserving league leaders. However, with Bayern looking likely to dismantle Wolfsburg in front of a home crowd on Friday night, and this match against a useful opposition coming at a slightly inconvenient time, things could soon change at the top.

The hosts have indeed made a fine start to the new campaign and, in their current mood, it is looking as though it will take a big effort for anyone to stop them. That being said, there’s reason to think that a travelling Gladbach side could perhaps put the hosts under a bit a of pressure in this fixture.

Although their recent record doesn’t quite match Dortmund’s, the visitors have also made a pleasing start to the new campaign. Dieter Hecking’s men have won three, drawn one and lost one, and have started to really come into their own over the last week or so. Their 2-2 draw away at Leipzig last week was certainly eye-catching, while they also impressed when beating Stuttgart 2-0 last time out. Even against the might of Dortmund, who may just, or rather definitely will, have one eye on their forthcoming Champions League fixture, Gladbach could quite easily hold their own.

At the prices, the bet that stands out is ‘Gladbach Win/Draw Double Chance’. After a couple of promising performances, in which things have really started to click for Hecking’s side, the visitors can give Dortmund their first real test of the domestic campaign.

As we all know, Dortmund are an excellent side, one that is capable of both controlling almost any game and cutting almost any opponent apart; however, their performances of late, as good as they have been, haven’t been flawless. For a start, the hosts are yet to really be tested at the back and also haven’t faced a team of Gladbach’s pedigree, especially in an attacking sense. BVB could quite easily win this match and continue their run, but, they could just as easily falter. As we saw in their recent Champions League match against Spurs, this is a side who’re certainly there to be got at, while Hamburg also came close to catching them out a few times on Wednesday night. They’re yet to concede a league goal mainly because most of their opponents haven’t had it within them, for either a lack of quality or lack of attacking belief, to get forward. As a side adept at playing on the counter, Gladbach can be the first team to put Dortmund’s rather shaky-looking defence to the test.

Another factor here could be the aforementioned Champions League game against Madrid next week. After losing to Spurs on match-day one, it’s fairly important that Dortmund get something against Real at home on Tuesday night and so manager Bosz could very well make changes ahead of this fixture, thus strengthening Gladbach’s chances a little more.

Hecking’s men showed that they can compete with the top teams when securing a point, and scoring two goals, away at Leipzig last weekend. You might say Dortmund is another kettle of fish, but punters really shouldn’t be put off. The visitors, as they did on their visit to the Red Bull Arena seven days ago, will back themselves to take advantage of any defensive slackness from the hosts. If Dortmund continue to press forward, which they certainly will do, the visitors should be nicely set up to take advantage on the break.

To put it simply, this pair could be much more closely matched than the prices would have punters believe. Although Dortmund have been in imperious form, it’s hard to see just how they warrant a price of 4/9. On their day, Gladbach can mix it with the big boys, and, all in all, a price of 31/10 about either a draw or a visiting win is too good to turn down.
