An in-form Accrington play host to a stuttering Grimsby in League Two on Saturday afternoon – a fixture that provides the hosts with a good opportunity to continue their rise up the table.

On their overall achievements this season, there’s little between two teams who’re separated in the table by just three points, although Accrington do have a game in hand and could leapfrog their opponents with a victory. Given just how impressive they’ve been in recent weeks, a Stanley win certainly doesn’t seem unlikely, so much so that the hosts are worth backing to come out on top. Additionally, ‘Accrington to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ makes for an excellent secondary bet here.

So far, 2017 is proving to be a very fruitful year for Accrington Stanley. John Coleman’s team have lost just two league games since the turn of the year and are currently unbeaten in nine. Defensively, things have greatly improved for Stanley, while they’re also proving to be quite a handful at the other end of the pitch. Playing at home has been particularly profitable in recent weeks with the hosts winning four of their last five at the Crown Ground, scoring no less than 12 goals in the process.

Having scored at least twice in four of their last five at home and in seven of their last ten overall, with the goals being shared around nicely, it’s easy to envisage an outcome where Accrington have found the net more than once in this fixture, especially since Grimsby have been known to ship plenty on the road.

Grimsby’s performances of late have been something of a mixed bag. On their day, the visitors are capable of showing up well, but they’ve been well beaten all too often and could quite easily struggle on their visit to face a team who’re clearly thriving. Playing on the road has caused Marcus Bignot’s side significant problems in recent weeks and they’ve now won just one of their last six away from home. Of the other five, they’ve lost four, losing 2-0, 5-0, 1-0 and 4-0 on their last away outing. Such form doesn’t bode well, particularly when Accrington are scoring goals at a rapid rate.

Confidence in the home camp is likely to be sky-high right now and this can be put to good use when facing a Grimsby team who look to be on the slide. Backing John Coleman’s men to both come out on top and score at least twice in doing so is the way to make this one pay.
